Book Review: "Hot on Her Heels" by Susan Mallery

All that stands between him and his goal is Deputy Dana, her gun and a growing passion that can't be denied.
Neither Garth nor Dana wants to surrender first. But sleeping with the enemy just might have its own rewards...
What a great end to the series. To be honest I was afraid to read this one. The last series I read by this author I was highly disappointed in the last book. I am glad I read this one though. What a great book! I was sad to see it end! I love series books like that. I enjoyed all the characters and couldn't wait to see how it all wrapped up. A must read series!

Teaser Tuesday

I thought I would try something new - "Teaser Tuesdays"

It’s that time of week again, everyone, and time for the Tuesday Teaser.Again the reminder of what this is all about. We are asked to:
1. Grab your current read.
2. Let the book fall open to a random page.
3. Share two teaser sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
4. Share the title of the book that the “teaser” comes from, so people can find the book if they like the teaser.
And again remember – avoid spoilers.
Here is mine:
Before Lauren had a chance to think about what she just agreed to, Jason sent her to the kitchen, and by the time she returned, he'd enlarged the hole. With the treat they finally rescued the troublesome feline.
This is from "Lucky Break" by Carly Phillips.

Book Review: "Mrs. Miracle" by Debbie Macomber

Book Review: "Mrs. Miracle" by Debbie Macomber

Book Description:

Seth Webster's heart never healed after he lost his adored wife. Now, with Christmas approaching, wild twin boys to raise alone, a home in chaos, and the latest in a long line of exasperated housekeepers quitting in disgust, Seth needs more than help to keep his family together ... he needs a miracle. And then a miracle arrives on his doorstep. Her name is Mrs. Merkle, but the kids call her "Mrs. Miracle" -- and from the moment the warm, knowing, and very patient nanny appears, everything is different. Her sassy spirit is infectious, and it gives Seth the courage to approach Reba, a beautiful travel agent who's been hurt and betrayed, and is afraid to ever love again. Through the magic of faith -- and with a little help from a children's Christmas pageant and a lot of encouragement from Mrs. Miracle -- Seth and Reba might just be able to find a Christmas miracle of their very own: true love.

What a cute book! I can't wait to watch the movie next month! A nice quick read by Debbie Macomber. I usually just read her Cedar Cove and Blossom Street series so this was a nice departure...

If you are looking for a 'feel good' book, this is it. =)

Book Review: "Fudge Cupcake Murder" by Joanne Fluke

Book Review: "Fudge Cupcake Murder" by Joanne Fluke

Book Description:
Bakery owner Hannah Swensen just can't keep her hands out of the batter when murder stirs things up in Lake Eden, Minnesota, leaving the sheriff dead, a deputy accused, and a killer on the loose...
For Hannah, life seems to be lacking a certain flavor lately. Maybe it's the local sheriff's election that's got her down. For years, Sheriff Grant's been the iron hand in town. But now, Hannah's brother-in-law Bill is giving the old blowhard the fight of his long, dubious career - and Grant's not taking it well, especially once the polls show Bill pulling ahead.
But before anyone can taste victory, thing go sour. While Hannah's emptying the trash, she makes a very unappetizing discovery: Sheriff Grant's body in the Dumpster behind the high school where she's teaching her cooking class. And as if that weren't bad enough, the poor man still has fudge frosting on his shirt from one of her cupcakes.
The number one - and only - suspect is Bill, but Hannah's not swallowing it. Plenty of people had reason to hate Sheriff Grant. Soon, Hannah's dishing up scandalous secrets, steaming hot betrayals, and enough intrigue to keep the gossip mill at The Cookie Jar going through several pots of decaf. And the closer Hannah gets to the truth, the closer she gets to smoking out a murderer with a very nasty recipe for silencing people...
Another great installment in this series. Anyone who enjoys Stephanie Plum series will enjoy this one. I am always trying to guess who 'done it' and this time I was right.... I am usually wrong until closer to the end.
Happy Reading!

Book Review: "Last Writes" by Laura Levine

Book Review: "Last Writes" by Laura Levine

Book Description:

Wisecracking pen-for-hire Jaine Austen is back -- —and she'’s about to discover that working on the set of a Hollywood sitcom is no laughing matter…...

Jaine still hasn’'t found a good man -- —or a way to keep all those sugary snacks from going straight to her hips. But— -- with a little help from her best friend Kandi— -- she’'s finally landed a gig as a sitcom writer! True, Muffy '‘n Me (aka “Bewitched with Tits”) isn’'t going to win any Emmys. And her office at Miracle Studios needs a little sprucing up, and a few dozen rat traps. But it sure beats writing boring brochures and bad resumes, so Jaine'’s not complaining. Until the plot thickens— -- with murder…...

Jaine figures the trouble all started when Muffy '‘n Me'’s hottest star, gorgeous Quinn Kirkland, seduced the head writer— -- whose husband also works on the show. But when Quinn'’s caught in bed with the barely-legal actress who plays his niece, things really heat up— -- and his many jealous girlfriends start to figure things out...…

So when the no-good heartthrob drops dead after nibbling a poisoned doughnut, Jaine isn’'t terribly surprised. But who could have done it? A competitive co-star and a couple of scorned lovers top Jaine'’s list of suspects, but the police have zeroed in on her man-crazy pal Kandi. She fell hard for Quinn -- —and nearly fell apart when she learned of all his other women. Now Jaine has to figure out who finally stopped Quinn’'s cheatin’' heart -- before her best friend ends up behind bars…...

This is the 2nd in the series. What a great cozy!!! Fast paced and funny! I am enjoying this series as well. I don't know that I could read them back to back to back, but I will continue to read the series.

Book Review: "The Trouble with JJ" by Tami Hoag

Book Review: "The Trouble with J.J." by Tami Hoag

Book Description:

In this romantic, funny, and heartwarming classic novel, #1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag poignantly captures one eventful summer in the life of a woman facing the ultimate relationship dilemma.

It took only one look for Genna Hastings to make up her mind about her new next-door neighbor, J. J. Hennessy. She knew his type all too well: Jared Jay Hennessy was tall and handsome, a man who thought he was God’s gift to women. From the pink flamingos dotting his front yard to the all-night boozy barbecues, he threatened to disrupt Genna’'s peaceful summer off from teaching. But beneath his carefree smile and teasing nature, J.J. was a man as serious about the future as he was about Genna. He’d come to this quiet Connecticut town to change his life, and he challenged Genna to help him become Mr. Right. It was a challenge she knew she’d be smart to refuse... and one J.J. knew she couldn'’t resist.

Tami Hoag is a new author for me. When doing research before reading this book, this book was one of her first writings. She is now more popularly known as a suspense writer. I think those books are a little 'dark' for me, but this book was a nice 'light' romance book. Not too 'sugary' sweet. I enjoyed it. I might browse her other books to see if there might be a suspense book that would interest me, as I do like romantic suspense books, but not too 'dark'. But if you are looking for a new author and a light, quick romantic read, this book is it. I highly recommend.

Book Review: "Bubbles in Trouble" by Sarah Strohmeyer

Book Review: "Bubbles in Trouble" by Sarah Strohmeyer

Book Description:
In her second novel featuring the high-energy beautician/rookie reporter, Bubbles Yablonsky (after 2001's Bubbles Unbound), Strohmeyer successfully navigates the fine line between humorous stereotype and sympathetic amateur investigator. As the novel opens, the tube top-wearing, Camaro-driving, self-described last "Polish-Lithuanian Barbie doll in Lehigh, Pennsylvania" is taking the blame for jinxing the nuptials of her shy friend, Janice, a records clerk in the local police department. Janice has not only gone missing but the uncle with whom she lives is soon found dead in his gated retirement home. Bubbles retraces Janice's last steps, which lead to some shady doings in Amish country. Bubbles goes undercover, frantically (and hilariously) shifting between her role as a sexy reporter and her cover as an Amish widow. Despite her bumbling in a foreign culture, Bubbles manages to win the friendship and trust of this tight-knit community, and her own respect and growing understanding of the Plain folk is nicely conveyed. Bubbles's hunky beau, photographer Steve Stiletto, makes a steamy appearance, along with many other well-wrought oddball characters, including Bubbles's mother, Lulu, who's going through a Jackie O. phase.
I really am enjoying this series. For those of you that like the Stephanie Plum series, you will enjoy this one as well. I laughed in many parts of the book. I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series.

Happy Reading!
